Lucy was the originator and co-creator of Clement Space. This is the first time I am crafting Clement Space without Lucy’s physical presence by me. I miss her terribly, but her indomitable spirit permeates the entire process.
Commissioned by ART:DIS, Clement Space 2023 was installed on 2nd December 2023 as a one day pop-up immersive installation at the Enabling Lives Festival, in one of the outdoor cabanas at the Enabling Village, Singapore.
This iteration of Clement Space makes a marked return to its original prototype, Sonata in Z, in memory and honour of Lucy Like-a-Charm’s legacy of love and life. The colour theme will be white and earthy whites with hints of matt gold, Lucy’s images will be woven into the busy tapestry, and there will be a gentle soundscape of Lucy’s heartbeat.
It was a privilege and pleasure to work with creative assistant and fellow autie artist, Issac Tan, and his mum, Peggy Chan, who were amazingly productive. They worked very hard, making beautifully fluffy pompoms, and adding a special unique ‘flavour’ to the work in the form of delightful origami animals!
